It’s that time of year again (pumpkin carving party invitations) September 20, 2007

I love doing Halloween invitations. So this is the 4th year in a row that we’ve had a pumpkin carving party. You can see the first 2 years’ invitations here . Last years’ invitation is here, at the bottom.

This year’s invitation was pretty simple. Basically- our house surrounded by bats. I think that our house looks like your stereotypical haunted house, especially in black & white. On the back, there’s an orange vellum pumpkin with bite marks and the address labels are made to look like a bat’s mouth, with the address inside.

Tree branch Save the Dates September 19, 2007

These are Melissa’s save the dates. She is using a more formal tree and invitation style (see Tree Invitations). I did a few different designs for the STD’s but this is the one she liked the best. Fortunately, it was my favorite one as well. It’s a little more playful than the invitations, but follows the tree theme nicely.  Each individual leaf is hand applied and gives each piece it’s own uniqueness and much more depth than just a printed leaf. I like how I always ‘invite’ myself when I make the sample piece for my book

Oh shucks! (glam invitation) September 6, 2007

So I didn’t end up getting the order for this invitation but I really like it so I thought I’d post. The request was for something modern-glam with a touch of girly. The wedding colors were black, gray, white, green and pink. The bride wanted to save the pink for the reception and have the invitations just have a touch of green. And she wanted to incorporate squares into the reception decor as well as crystals and possibly feathers. And the bride liked graphics.

I have been really digging chandeliers lately and I thought it would be the perfect time to create a bold graphic chandelier- modern and glam all in one. The chandelier was embellished with a green swarovski crystal. And the backing to the chandelier and invitation is a graphic I made based on a brocade pattern that looked ‘feathery’. There is a pocket on the backside with a square cut out revealing the title of the contents of the pocket. I used a black envelope to keep it modern and rounded the edges of the address label to soften the harsh edges a bit (the invitation also has rounded edges).The fonts were modern and slightly girly as well. Maybe next time…
