Hilary came to me with a budget, a location (a vineyard) and pretty much one requirement for her invitations- “fun”. And I lucked out and she liked my first design.  Fun invitations tend to be my favorite. And I am normally not a purple person at all but I really liked how these 2 purples looked together.

The vellum envelope gives you a sense of the grapes right away. The invitation itself is folded at a perforated line. When the invitation is unfolded, you can see the leaves at the top of the grape bunch. The perforated line is to detach the response card. And we did a simple vellum information insert to keep costs down.

I always love doing invitations for friends and family. Because they usually say “do whatever you want”. But this bridal shower was for a soon to be family member, someone I have not met yet. So I decided to say ‘within the box’.  The wedding colors are chocolate brown & sage.The colors allowed me  to use up some ‘leftovers’. I had the brown envelopes from some earlier wedding invitations. And i’ve also been waiting to use the ivory metallic business card sized envelopes for something. So I thought I would do a registry/rsvp card that would go into the little envelopes. The map is also printed on metallic ivory paper, as were the envelope labels. Hopefully the bride-to-be likes them…

Megan’s wedding is at a vineyard. She knew the colors she wanted and she knew she wanted something contemporary, elegant and simple. So for her save-the-dates, I did a very simple calendar design with her colors and with a little pop of green (she’s using green grapes in the centerpieces).  I can’t wait to do her invitations!

The best part about doing work for friends is that they typically say, “do whatever you want”. You really can’t beat hearing that at your ‘job’ Shannon and Ben welcomed a beautiful baby girl to the world in December. The only direction for the announcements was to possibly use lady bugs or butterflies. I went with butterflies. I found the envelope liner paper and the rest was easy. All the butterflies are coordinating patterns & colors. And no traditional pink here. The main colors were rhubarb and aqua. I like how the aqua (traditionally a more ‘male’ color) is the dominant color but the patterns and butterflies keep it distinctly girly.  The gorgeous baby photo was done by 3peasphotograpy

After weeks of my computer being in the shop, i’m back up and running. I’m working on some really cute baby announcements at the moment. I should have the pictures up in a couple weeks.

I’m also working on a wedding invitation for a very dear friend of mine. I love doing work for my friends because they are usually the most flexible in terms of letting me just do whatever

And, as some of you know, i’m an architect in ‘real’ life. And through my ‘real’ job, I met the owner of Emplume, Shannon Progar, who, besides creating the most beautiful bouquets I’ve ever seen,  does fabulous upholstery work.

These were for me! Gus Allen arrived on August 17th and so far he’s making my job easy   His birth announcement coordinates with the baby shower invitations I did. I printed the main body of the announcment prior to his birth so I could just attach a piece of vellum with his stats on it afterwards. Then I attached a cute sepia toned picture with some sage green photo corners.

This is the sample invitation I made for Jennifer’s destination wedding in Turks & Caicos. She sent me some patterns that she liked and the colors she wanted to use: steel gray, deep yellow and a royal purple/blue. I love this color pallette- it’s definitely not what you see all the time in wedding invitations I tweeked the patterns to incorporate them in the design. The ‘loudest’ pattern was the rattan which I thought would make a great envelope liner. The floral pattern covers the back of the inserts and the outside of the pocketfold. The ‘bubbly’ pattern accents the invitation and a larger ‘bubble’ identifies each of the inserts. The fonts and patterns create a fun, modern invitation.

This invitation is similar to her sister Suzanne’s invitations in that the invitation has to have an English and Chinese version and, of course, the traditional double happiness symbol. I used the same vintage double happiness stamp that was used on Suzanne’s invitation but I altered the red color to be more coral-y to better match Jennifer’s color scheme.

The invitation is wrapped in a band that features the postage stamps used on Jennifer’s save the dates. There are 2 inserts- an activity card and a response card with envelope.

Well, it’s finally about that time. I just wanted to post a heads up that I will be a bit unavailable in August and September due to a new baby. Everyone with pending orders is aware of this but I wanted to let any possible new clients know why i’ll be a little slow in responding to inquiries. I will be able to do design work but I won’t be able to do any production until September. Thanks!

She is so pretty- love her hair And look how great all her green details were (the moss, the grass and the tree favors). So lovely- I’m glad she had a wonderful day.
